  • Youth –drivers under 25 had the highest fatal crash involvement rate of any age group

  • Minimum legal drinking age laws
  • Sobriety checkpoint
  • Mass media campaigns
  • Zero tolerance laws for underage drivers

1997- 2002

  • 2,355 children 14 years and younger killed in alcohol-related crashes
  • 1,588— 68%—rode with intoxicated driver
