Breast Cancer Screening:  More than Just Mammograms

This Public Health Grand Rounds will feature an exemplary case of how a screening program can save lives. We will discuss the challenges of screening programs and the strategies implemented to meet them. Join us as we find answers and ask new questions about this important public health issue.

Goal

To promote a leadership-level national dialogue on breast cancer screening and the outreach efforts of state and local public health agencies.

Objectives

Participants will:

  • Identify the barriers that prevent women from receiving breast cancer screening.
  • Identify hard-to-reach populations in the community who can benefit from outreach services.
  • Describe strategies to reach women in under-served populations.
  • Describe an effective follow-up procedure to a positive breast cancer screening exam.
  • Describe approaches to assure high-quality mammography in your community.
  • Identify controversial issues related to breast cancer screening.

Audience

Health leaders and professionals from state and local public health agencies, community and women’s health centers, academic institutions, managed care organizations and others who seek to increase awareness of breast cancer and improve the life expectancy of women at risk.
